CLASSIC TRACTION 2012 is a commemorative 4 disc DVD set that reviews some of the many classic diesel, electric & modern traction highlights of 2012 as filmed exclusively by the Classic Traction Film Crews. In Volume 1, we begin by reviewing all the action from the 2011 Severn Valley Diesel Gala which included D306 Atlantic Conveyor, D821 Greyhound, D1062 Western Courier, 50031 Hood and 50049 Defiance. We also review the South Devon Diesel Gala, which featured newly repainted into BR Green D8110, D7612, D6737 & 'Dutch' liveried 33002 Sea King, review First Great Western's 'Farewell to the Class 142' charter, the use of Class 56/3 56302 with 47375 on the 'silver bullet' ECC china clay slurry wagons from Burngullow, and enjoy a spirited cab ride (with much thrash!) in 50042 Triumph on the Bodmin & Wenford, as the Class 50 tackles the railway's 1 in 37 gradients! In Volume 2 we see Class 47s return to the West Country, witness DRS Class 20/3s working through Devon on a Keyham - Crewe Gresty Lane route learner, and review two Network Rail Inspection Specials over the mothballed Cattewater branch, the first trains over this freight only line in over 4 years! We then review the use of Class 25/2 D7612 Mercury on the Kingswear line, and see all the action from the Swanage Diesel Gala which featured Class 33/1 33111, Class 27 D5401, Network Rail Class 57/3 57312, Class 50 50026 Indomitable & Class 73/1 electro-diesel 73136 Perseverance. In Volume 3, we examine the 1960s BR Mixed Traffic Weekend on the South Devon, see current freight operations on the Moorswater freight only line, examine DRS powered nuclear flask operations from Devonport Dockyard, and see First Great Western HST Power Car 43186 in her Diamond Jubilee 'Royal' livery. We also see the '3-2-C' charter over the South Devon banks hauled by DRS 37606 & 37608, and a special feature on the much-awaited return to traffic of Network South East liveried 50017 Royal Oak on the Plym Valley. We extensively review the West Somerset Diesel Gala which featured Class 42 'Warship' D832 Onslaught, Class 35 'Hymek' D7018, Class 52 'Western' D1010 Western Campaigner, visiting Class 55 'Deltic' 55022 Royal Scots Grey and Class 73s 73119 Borough of Eastleigh and 73207. We then review the Mazey Day Specials to Penzance hauled by WCRC Class 37 & Class 55 'Deltic' power, the Bodmin & Wenford China Clay Weekend featuring the return to traffic of 'Cornish' 37142, 50044 Exeter's return to the main line, as we see this veteran English Electric Type 4 visit the Paignton and Plymouth lines, and conquer the South Devon banks of Dainton and Hemerdon. This volume concludes with an examination of current West Coast operations between Crewe and Preston, featuring DRS & EWS Class 66, Freightliner Class 90, as well as Virgin 'Voyagers' & 'Pendolinos,' and a variety of modern second generation DMUs. In Volume 4, we review the final days of signal boxes in the Kidderminster Junction, Hartlebury, Stourbridge Junction and Blakedown areas, as traditional semaphores give way to colour light signalling, the introduction of Colas Class 56s on the Teigngrace timber traffic, South Wales freight operations featuring classes 56, 60, 66 & 70, and the first ever visit of a FGW Class 150/2 to the Bodmin & Wenford, and we conclude by seeing the RHTT working on the Falmouth branch. Classic Traction 2012 - Volume II
CLASSIC TRACTION 2012: Volume II (Parts 8 - 14) is the second volume in a commemorative set that reviews some of the highlights of 2012 as filmed exclusively by the Classic Traction Team. Filmed over the period March - May 2012, we begin by examining the return to the West Country of the legendary Brush Type 4s / Class 47s, as former GWR150 celebrity 47500 works the 'Royal Duchy' to Penzance and Large Logo 47/4 47580 County of Essex heads the 'Statesman' with WCRC 57601. By comparison, we next see DBS Class 67s 67005 Queen's Messenger & 67027 head the VSOE at Plymouth, and review the former GWR station at South Brent, the one time junction for the Kingsbridge branch, where we see Network Rail's New Measurement Train (NMT), as well as DRS Class 37/6 37608, and the extremely rare appearance in the South West of DRS Class 20/3s 20312 + 20303 on a Keyham - Crewe Gresty Lane route learner. Remaining in the West Country, we see the rare appearance of DRS 37s 37259 & 37604 (the former D6707 / 37007, and now the oldest Class 37 permitted to run over the National Network), on the 1Q13 Network Rail Plymouth District Test Train, which visited the MOD Royal Navy Armistice Depot sidings at Ernesettle and the mothballed Cattewater branch in Plymouth. We also see the same train during its second working the following week, which was worked by Network Rail liveried 31465 & DBSO 9701, these workings being the FIRST trains to pass over the disused Cattewater branch since 2008. Next, we review the use of Dart-Rail Sulzer Type 2 / Class 25/2 D7535 Mercury over the Kingswear line, and conclude with an extensive review of the Swanage Railway Diesel Gala, which featured Push-Pull fitted Class 33/1 33111, Sulzer Type 2 / Class 27 D5401 (visiting from the Great Central), Network Rail liveried 'Bodysnatcher' Class 57/3 57312, Class 73/1 electro-diesel 73136 Perseverance, and English Electric Type 4 / Class 50 50026 Indomitable, making her VERY FIRST passenger runs in preservation in almost 22 years! Classic Traction 2012 - Volume IV
CLASSIC TRACTION 2012: Volume IV (Parts 28 - 32) is the fourth volume in a commemorative DVD set that reviews some of the many heritage diesel and modern traction highlights of 2012, as filmed exclusively by the Classic Traction Film Crews nationwide. Filmed during Autumn 2012, and covering August - late October 2012, this volume begins by reviewing the West Midlands Resignalling Scheme which in August 2012 witnessed a number of signal boxes, including Churchill & Blakedown and Hartlebury, replaced under the new West Midlands Power Box. We examine the section from Stourbridge Junction to Hartlebury, and also review the Stourbridge Town branch as worked by London Midland Parry Class 139 LPG People Movers, and in this section we also see classes 172 and departemental 960 DMUs in action, as well as EWS Class 66/0s on freight workings. Next, we review South Wales freight operations between Cardiff and Severn Tunnel Junction, encompassing classes 56, refurbished 60, 66 and 70 on oil, steel, container and Ministry of Defence traffic. We then review the first ever visit of a First Great Western Class 150/2 'Sprinter' to the Bodmin & Wenford at their Autumn Diesel Gala, which also featured resident and unique BR General liveried Class 33/1 33110. We then examine in detail the Colas Class 56 operations to Teigngrace on the Heathfield branch in Mid Devon, and conclude by briefly reviewing the West of England RHTT operation on the Falmouth branch, as worked by EWS Class 66s 66011 & 66094.
